Why hire a designer?

Hiring a designer has many positive outcomes. For example, when living in the same space for years at a time, it is easy to lose sight of any type of potential it may have. By using a designer, you allow a set of fresh eyes to see the space in its entirety and therefore get a set of fresh and new ideas.

The same idea holds true with a brand new space. White walls and empty rooms can be very intimidating but a designer can ask the right questions in order to begin the design process and help you create a wonderful space.

As a rule, a designer is there to ask the right questions and encourage you to express your ideals for that space. A designer also has access to so many different avenues for your space. Access to things such as thousands of fabric samples or custom furniture or upholstery. All of these are unavailable to the public. Most importantly, hire a designer for her knowledge. Victoria has studied interior design for 3 years and has been practicing since 2001. She is therefore well versed in textiles, furniture, lighting and design concepts.

How does the design process begin?

The design process begins with an initial visit between the designer and the client where the needs of the clients will be discussed as well the extent of the job. Once this has been determined and a fee has been arranged, it is then the designers responsibility to:

  • Address the existing problems
  • Consider the aesthetic and function
  • Develop a design concept
  • Realize the design concept

All these steps are done with the clients input and contributions. Depending upon the project, a timeline will be established as to when the job will be complete. The clients will always be actively part of the design process.

How do you charge?

Each design job is unique and therefore the fees will be determined by the extent of the services required. However, the cost of the initial visit with the clients, will be credited to the future design bill. Depending upon the job, Victoria can be hired for $75.00/hr or for a flat rate discussed with the clients.

Will I have input in the design?

Absolutely! The designer is there to compliment your tastes and give new ideas to the space. Victoria will give suggestions and recommendations but you as the client will always have the final say and opinion as to what you would like. Victoria encourages a close working relationship between client and designer. This relationship includes listening to the clients needs and wants and catering to them as individuals.

Will I save money by hiring a designer?

Because Victoria is a certified interior designer, she has the knowledge and experience that a homeowner may not have. This means, no potentially costly mistakes by homeowners. As a designer, Victoria has access to fabric companies, work rooms and upholsterers from whom you can benefit from. Therefore, take advantage of these avenues and have almost everything customized from drapes to furniture, so as to create the perfect space for your home.
